Hyperventilation
You speak the words quietly
And I listen with caution
But as you speak you pull the breath out of my lungs
And I stop breathing
Just for a second
My heart is racing now
Inside my aching chest
My feelings are scattered around the floor
As I touch my face waiting for tears to flow down
Not sure if I'm strong enough to hold them back
Breathe is escaping
As I gasp for air
'Look for your happy place'
But I search
And search
And search
But it is just blurred by the tears
The tears I'm forcing back
'Don't worry,
I'm fine
This happens all the time'
You walk away
As if nothing had happened
I hug myself
'But it still hurts
